Pencils of Promise (PoP) is a for-purpose organization that believes every child deserves access to quality education. Founded in 2008 by Adam Braun with $25 he had in his pocket, PoP has built over 580 schools, hired teachers, and created scholarship programs in Ghana, Guatemala, and Laos. The organization takes a community-based approach, working with local leaders to ensure that schools are built where they are most needed and that communities take ownership of their education systems. Beyond construction, PoP trains teachers, provides learning materials, and establishes school health programs.
