CT tells the story of sitting next to a stranger's wife on a red-eye from Hawaii and falling into an uninterrupted, effortless conversation for the entire flight — a flow state he couldn't explain at the time but now recognizes as resonance.
00:46CT KauppAnd I have a story that I want to tell you to speak to this, this level of resonance, this maybe it's just better if I explain it and you'll, you'll see what I mean. So, okay. If we go back ten years ago, I'm like mid twenties, I'm flying home from Hawaii. My mom and siblings are on the left side of the plane. I am in the aisle on the right hand side of the plane.
01:15CT KauppI, I don't remember what I was, doing. I'm like in my, I think it was in my, I was looking at my backpack or something. And all of a sudden this couple is like, Hey, we're, we're like, we're sitting there like a middle and, and window. It's okay, cool. You know, let them through, take, take a seat.
01:35CT KauppLet's get ready for this, you know, eight hour flight or whatever it's going to be. I have some small talk with them. The husband ends up passing out on the window seat very early on the flight. And I remember I was playing on the seat back video screen, on the seat back screen in front of me. I was playing some kind of Zen, some kind of Zen something like, you know how, when, when you're flying and they'll have like, they'll have, movies or TV shows to watch or, or I guess music to listen to.
02:14CT KauppAnd now we just use Spotify. I feel like this is like way I wasn't using Spotify then. So I think I just remember being like, I have no idea what I'm going to do on this flight, but, I am, I'm going to wash this fricking forest landscape or, you know, going down the lazy river, whatever it is, I'm just going to, chill out in that they had some kind of Zen relaxation, I guess, is the word I'm looking for. So I'm playing that for like half an hour. This experience is way before I have the spiritual and energetic words to even articulate what's going on.
02:51CT KauppSo, so what I'm expressing to you now is like in reflection, I can, I can see clearly what was going on At the time, it just it felt amazing and I had no idea what was going on, basically? That's what I'm trying to say. Okay. So I was so I'm watching I'm watching this this, lazy river landscape or whatever, relaxing videos on that screen for about a half an hour. And I can feel the wife next to me wanting to talk.
03:18CT KauppI don't, I don't have a logical reason. I don't have a, I have nothing to tell you why I feel that way. It was just an intuitive pull of like, I think she wants to talk to, to whatever degree. I don't even know what that would turn into. Right.
03:31CT KauppAnd I don't, I don't remember how the conversation started. I just remember that we started the conversation and we never stopped the entire eight hour flight. So this is a red eye. People are passed out. I remember she got a meal at one point.
03:50CT KauppShe didn't even like dive into that meal for like half an hour. Cause we're just, I think what I, what I think we were adding was just flow state. We're just flowing to a way to express that is, you know, I bring up topic a, she talks about topic B I talk about C and I, and I call back to the topic B she brings up D she calls back the topic C it is this like amazing, beautiful. It's like, it's like a, a beautiful symphony, right? Like, it's just like this beautiful, music that's, that's being played.
04:23CT KauppAnd there there's nothing that is forced. There's no awkward silence. The, the only thing that I remember vividly, like actually, Hey, we talked about this was just like geography. Like they moved here, they live here. I'm like, Hey, I'm thinking about moving here or wherever.
04:40CT KauppIt was just like a geography thing. But other than that, like, I don't remember the actual content of the discussion. I just remember this beautiful free flowing nature that we could have been on that flight for we could have gone I think we went Hawaii to Denver or Hawaii to Phoenix. I can't remember now, but one of the two. So but my point is we could go on from Hawaii to Denver, back to Hawaii, back to Denver.
05:08CT KauppLet's go to Phoenix. Let's go to Denver, whatever. And I, I would not have cared because we are, we are just, we're in that effortless space. It's funny now because I talk about how my number one love language is quality time. I give this joke about we can, we could wash paint dry, or we could take an international trip.
05:30CT KauppAnd it doesn't matter to me because we are together. We're co creating that space together. We get each other, see each other, hear each other, value each other. It doesn't matter what we're doing. It's just that that connection of being together is what's most important.
05:45CT KauppAnd so that is very similar to that experience where that flight could have been double, triple the length. And I wouldn't have, it wouldn't have mattered to me at all because I'm just enjoying that space. I remember we get off the flight and my mom is like, what the heck was that? And I was just like, I have no idea. I don't even know.
06:09CT KauppI freaking loved it, but like, I don't, I don't even know. I don't even know what happened. I'm kind of like in a, like in a daze, just like my energy is super high. I'm just like, that's, that was fricking amazing. I loved every second of that.
06:20CT KauppWe didn't exchange numbers. We didn't, I I've never seen her again in my life, but I will never forget that experience and that flow state. That is what I desire. When I look at dating now in 2025 and beyond, it's why it feels so misaligned because we're talking about Chick fil A. Now at Chick fil A, if you wanna sponsor the show, feel free.
