Why Doing Your Fitness Publicly Might Be the Only Thing That Actually Keeps You Going
▸ Show notes from the creator
What if the secret to sticking with fitness wasn't willpower or the perfect plan, but the fact that people are watching? In this episode, Ashley gets real about one of her biggest fears: failing at fitness in front of an audience, and why that fear might actually be her most powerful motivator.
She talks about what happens when you build your whole public presence around moving your body and then, sometimes, your body just won't cooperate. Those are the days the guilt hits hardest. Ashley opens up about working through that guilt, what daily accountability posts have done for her consistency, and why she believes doing your fitness publicly could be the missing piece for anyone who keeps falling off track. Plus, she's thinking about starting a community group where listeners can check in with each other around movement, nothing diet-culture, nothing toxic, just: did you move today? Do you want a Facebook Group for accountability? Tell her about it: https://famousashleygrant.com/group

The truth is one of my biggest fears is failure.
00:08
What's up you guys? Famous Ashley Grant here.
00:10
Welcome to More Movement Please, the podcast
00:11
where I hope to inspire you to move your body
00:13
more. I want to talk about failure and specifically
00:17
failure in fitness. And the reason I want to
00:19
talk about that is because I have a very strong
00:23
fear of failure. And I think it's because I am
00:26
doing this so publicly. I am working on my fitness
00:29
journey so publicly. And I want to talk about
00:33
that because it's something that I don't think
00:34
enough people in fitness discuss, and that is
00:39
that they're afraid of failing. I told you guys
00:43
from the beginning that my whole goal was to
00:44
be as transparent as possible about what I'm
00:46
going through. And the reason that I started
00:48
doing the daily accountability posts whenever
00:51
I first got started is because I knew that if
00:54
I was doing it publicly, I'd be that much more
00:55
likely to continue showing up. And so that became
00:58
kind of an addiction of, you know, the excitement
01:00
of when I could post like, hey, I did these classes
01:03
today. This is what I have planned for the week
01:06
and things like that. And it was. funny because
01:09
any day that I didn't post like right after class
01:12
or if I posted too late in the day I would start
01:15
getting messages like hey did you work out today
01:16
and so I really enjoyed the fact that I was doing
01:20
these accountability posts because well it kept
01:22
me accountable and that's something that means
01:25
a lot to me because whenever I know that people
01:27
are watching it makes me that much more likely
01:29
to show up and so the whole fear of failure thing
01:34
is still very strong in me especially since starting
01:37
this podcast It scares the hell out of me to
01:39
think of any day that I'm not moving, especially
01:41
when like I really physically can't. Those days
01:45
I feel hella guilty. And I've been trying to
01:48
work through that and handle it, you know, as
01:50
best I can, because let's face it, there are
01:52
some days that that I cannot physically move.
01:55
Those are the days I feel so incredibly guilty
01:57
because I have become somewhat known as the more
02:01
movement, please, girl. And so when the more
02:03
movement, please, girl is not moving, it's like,
02:05
well, what's happening? What's going on? And
02:08
so that's definitely a big a big driver to help
02:11
me with continuing to work out, which is good.
02:14
But, you know, it's just it's one of those things
02:17
where I get scared that if I'm not moving enough
02:20
that, well, I'm failing. I'm grateful that. I
02:25
have this platform because it is helping me to
02:28
stay accountable. But I do get scared that like
02:30
what happens if I start gaining weight or if
02:33
I, you know, start getting weaker or if something
02:35
happens that I'm no longer having upward momentum
02:39
that that scares me. And but again, it's a good
02:44
thing in the sense that it's keeping me accountable.
02:46
It's keeping me wanting to keep moving. And so
02:49
I kind of wanted to share this episode because
02:52
I wanted to suggest to you that if you are on
02:54
a fitness journey, do it publicly. You know,
02:58
it's, it's a great way. to make sure that you
03:01
keep moving. If you start doing daily accountability
03:04
posts, then that will help you to keep moving.
03:08
And so one of the things that I started to try
03:10
to do for a little bit, but it didn't really
03:12
pan out very well, but I still want to do it,
03:14
was I wanted to do a monthly or weekly accountability
03:18
update with folks just to check in with them
03:21
and see how their movement is going. So what
03:24
I want to know is, would you guys be interested
03:26
in that? Would you be down to be part of a community
03:29
where we can talk about fitness and talk about
03:33
how things are going and whether or not you're
03:36
moving and maybe even post your daily accountability
03:38
update in the group? hit me up at famousashleygrant
03:43
.com backslash group. And what I'll do is if
03:46
you guys are interested, I'll put together like
03:48
a Facebook group and we could do check -ins with
03:51
each other and just see how things are going.
03:53
And I don't want it to be one of those like toxic
03:55
groups where we start talking about, oh, this
03:56
is what I ate today. I don't want to do that.
03:58
I strictly want it to be about movement and whether
04:01
or not you moved that day. So if you're up for
04:03
that, I would love to hear from y 'all. Like
04:05
I said, head to famousashleygrant .com backslash
04:07
group. And there's a form there that, Basically,
04:11
you can, well, join the group. And if you guys
04:14
are into it, we'll play with it and see what
04:17
happens with it. And if it goes well, we'll keep
04:20
doing it. And if not, then we'll stop. And yeah,
04:23
I think that'd be fun to just check in with you
04:26
guys and see how things are going. Because I
04:28
said before, and I'll say it again, I don't want
04:31
this to just be about me. I want it to be a movement
04:33
of movement. And I want to... talk with y 'all
04:36
and see how things are going and see if you're
04:39
moving your body daily. And I just want to have
04:42
some fun with this. So head over to famousashleygrant
04:44
.com backslash group. Let me know what you think.
04:46
And onwards and upwards, my friends. Have you
04:49
worked out today?
