Ashley introduces the episode, explaining she got a question about what's in her gym bag — inspired by TikTok and Instagram trends — and decides to answer it in the spirit of being transparent and honest with her audience.
Are we really doing this? I guess we're doing this. What's up you guys? Famous Ashley Grant here. Welcome to More Movement Please, the podcast where I hope to inspire you to move your body more. So I got a fun question today and... I thought, you know what? What the hell? I'll answer it. Because I've told you guys before and I'll tell you again that my whole goal with this podcast is to be completely transparent and honest about all the things. So the funny question I got was, what's in your gym bag? And I can only imagine that this is because of the trends that have been happening on TikTok and Instagram and all that jazz. But I'm in a weird mood tonight. And so I thought, you know what? What the hell? I'll answer the question. So. The things I keep in my gym bag. Some of them may surprise you. I'm not really sure. Others of them, you might just be like, yeah, well, that figures. But here we
go. So what's in my gym bag? Let me take a look. Let's go through this together. In my gym bag, I have I have a pair of gloves and those are for whenever I'm lifting weights. And what's funny about the gloves that I bought is I bought them because during one of my. the first classes where I was trying to go a little bit heavier with the weights, I actually had them slip and hit me. And so that was the day that I went straight to the store and I bought some gloves so that I wouldn't have to worry about them slipping because, I mean, let's be honest, when you're working out, you sweat a lot. And so I didn't want to risk any injury. And so now I wear the gloves while I am doing my workouts. Some other things that I keep in my gym bag. I usually have two drinks. I keep one water bottle that is filled with water. And then the other water bottle I fill with the organic strawberry Gatorade. Or at least it is the case right now until I run
Ashley goes through the practical safety and hydration items she carries: lifting gloves (after weights slipped and hit her), two water bottles including organic strawberry Gatorade, granola bars (added after a dizzy spell during a workout), and knee braces for old and ongoing knee injuries.
out. I still haven't been able to find it on Amazon for sale. So I am looking for a new recovery drink. So I guess if you guys have any ideas, hit me up on social media. I'm Famous Ashley Grant everywhere. And even if that's not the handle, if you search Famous Ashley Grant, you'll find me. I'm looking for... I'm looking for drink ideas. What else is in my bag? Today, I actually have granola bars in my bag. I've had a situation recently where I was working out and I actually got really dizzy. And whenever I was looking into it. I kept finding things that were basically saying you're either dehydrated or you haven't had enough calories. And so I started keeping either a granola bar or some kind of something just to have a quick snack in case I start feeling the disease. So that's been helpful for me. Do I eat the healthiest of granola bars? Probably not. But you know what? It's serving the purpose
of what I'm looking for. One of the things I keep in my bag. Another thing I keep in my bag. I always keep a knee brace. I injured my knee whenever I was younger and getting overweight really didn't help that. And if anything, it exacerbated the issues that I was having. And I started having issues with my other knee as well because of said. you know, overweightness. And so I always keep knee braces in my bag just in case I need them, in case there's, you know, any kind of move I do that makes my knees angry.
Because, you know, that just, that is a thing. I want to make sure that I'm doing all of the workouts as safely as I can. And so that's definitely something that I always keep. Another thing in my gym bag, I keep tissues. I always keep tissues because you never know. You could just need a tissue. Another thing I keep in there, I always keep gum and I keep mints. And that's mainly because I don't want to just be mainlining water or drinks while I'm working out. Sometimes I just need something to like, you know, keep a...
I know a lot of people don't like the word moist, but that's just the case. I need something that's, you know, in my mouth. So that's usually a go -to for me whenever I don't want to be just drinking a bunch, but I do want... I guess the wetness in my mouth. Let's see what else is in here. I have my wallet because it's got my ID. It's got my, it's got my ID. It's got my little key tag to sign in at the gym. Let's see what else is in here. I have, well, some hand lotion because, you know, you got to keep your hands soft, especially, you know, doing all this weightlifting, getting those calluses. What else? Oh, I keep my microphone and the plug in for my phone so that I can record these podcast episodes. That's actually something that I always keep in my bag because as I'm going to and from the gym, I get ideas and then I want to share them. And so I always keep the equipment because I record in my car. So that's definitely
Ashley lists the remaining items: tissues, gum and mints to keep her mouth from getting dry, her wallet with gym key tag, hand lotion for calluses, her podcast microphone (since she records in her car), Zumba-specific soft-sole shoes, a hairbrush, and a stash of hair ties for herself and gym buddies.
something that is always in my gym bag. And I also keep a pair of shoes specifically for Zumba. Whenever I'm in most of my classes, I just wear my standard tennis shoes, but I have special shoes that have softer soles for Zumba. And the reason that I use those during Zumba is because it helps me to slide across the floor easier. What was happening before is I was just using my standard tennis shoes and I was actually getting stuck on the floor when we were doing certain moves. And so I went and got soft sole tennis shoes so that I... could slide around. Another thing I have in my gym bag might seem odd to you I don't know as I have a hairbrush. I am a girl and so I always keep a hairbrush just in case I get the wispies or the you know crazy hair. I've definitely had situations between classes where I've had to redo my hair because we'll do certain moves and I've had the bar or a dumbbell just completely you know mess up the
ponytail. I generally will have a ponytail because I have longer hair and I don't like getting extra sweaty when I don't need to. Let's see. Another thing that is in my gym bag is hair ties, because I've had a couple of friends, a couple of my gym buddies, they've needed hair ties before. And so I've kept hair ties in my bag because you never know when someone's going to need one. I've actually had a couple of people say, hey, does anyone have a hair tie? And so I'll just give them, you know, hair ties. You can get like 20 of them for. $1 .50. So like, I'll just keep them in my bag just in case or in case I forget to put my hair up. I have them for the day. So yeah, that's pretty much everything. Oh, and my keys. I always keep my keys because, you know, I gotta have the keys to be able to get to and from the gym. But yeah, that's what's in my gym bag. I thought that was a fun little question
to come in and answer. I don't know if this was amusing to you, if you guys... really cared that much about what's in my gym bag but if you did care now you know and if you have any other questions that you want to share that you want to have me answer I would love to answer them I'm always down to to kind of share with you guys what I'm going through what I'm doing what I'm up to so if you um If you want to ask me more questions, like I said, I'm everywhere on social media at Famous Ashley Grant.
