Transcript: The Shoe Update: Why I Went With Asics (And Why I'm Still Looking)

Well, Ashley, what shoes did you go with? What's

up, you guys? Famous Ashley Gert here. Welcome

to More Movement, Please, the podcast where I

hope to inspire you to move your body more. So

recently, I shared an episode that I was looking

for new shoes. And if you missed that episode,

there'll be a link in the show notes that you

can check it out. But basically, I was on a quest

to find the perfect shoes to try. I ended up

going with the Asics Nova Blast 5s. Since then,

I have seen a lot of articles that basically

I tried the wrong Brooks shoes or I tried the

wrong insert shoe here. And I did have one particular

person who was like, you should have gotten Rikers

and said that they were created for women. So

I wanted to explain why I went with Asics and...

that I'm still basically hunting for new shoes.

And here's what's going on. So the shoes that

I bought, the reason I needed them so urgently,

rather than giving myself time to do what I normally

like to do, which is research and thoroughly

review shoes before I commit to them, is like

I had mentioned in the previous episode, I started

getting holes in the other shoes that I had.

And so now that I've at least taken care of the

urgency factor of the fact that I needed new

shoes so badly. Now I intend to like thoroughly

research and review and see what my next pair

of shoes will be, because I don't remember if

I said it in the last episode, but I'm incredibly

hard on footwear. Like I'm I'm very hard on footwear.

I don't know if it's because of my arches or

or my my balls on my feet or what it is. It always

seems like the holes happen in the balls of my

feet on my shoes. I've never been to a podiatrist

about this to my knowledge. I mean, my mom is

a listener of this show and she'll probably correct

me if I'm wrong. But to my knowledge, I've never

really seen a podiatrist about my feet. I was

basically realizing like I needed to find a good

enough pair as quickly as possible. And I was

already wearing Asics. I had gotten a coupon

and I bought a pair of 50 % off at. I can't believe

I'm about to say this, at my local grocery store.

And so I went with Asics. And the reason I chose

the Asics Nova Blast is because my husband actually

wears Nova Blast 5s. And he was like, well, if

they have a female version of this, you should

try it. And so we went to Dick's and I tried

them and loved them. And of course, they didn't

have the color and the size I wanted. So we ordered

some. They came pretty quickly. And I... tried

them out for a little while to make sure that

I was going to be happy with these shoes. And

I've tried it out for several workouts and I've

been very happy with them so far. But now that

I've settled the urgency issue, I can't help

but wonder if maybe there is even a better shoe.

Since the time that I mentioned that I tried

the Brooks shoes and hated them, I have found

out that there are several other types of Brooks

shoes that are apparently much better. people

that are very active. Uh, I've been told to try

the, let's see, what were they? The Brooks ghosts

and the Brooks adrenaline. And what's interesting

is I just happened to find an article recently,

um, saying that those two shoes were considered

like the best walking shoes of ever. And so I'm

still looking because I still want to know more

about shoes. It might sound silly to someone

who's hearing this being like, well, You already

got your shoes. Why do you still want to be shopping?

And like I said, the thing is, since I am so

hard on my shoes and I know I will need to replace

these again, I don't want the urgency factor

to hit me next time like it did this time and

me just make a choice based on the fact that

I really, really need shoes. So I want to start

looking now before this. issue comes up again

and so basically I want to hear your recommendations

try out all the different shoes like if you think

I'm totally willing to be a guinea pig and try

out all the things because I want to know the

truth like I want to know like is it all marketing

hype or are the shoes that I'm looking for like

really the best of the best I think it'd be fun

to to just try out a bunch of different shoes

and and see now that I don't have like a clock

on it really give myself time to really investigate

and find out what the best shoes are. And hell,

I'm even going to try the Rikas. So I'm going

to I'm going to just purchase a bunch of shoes

or like I said, footwear companies, if you are

interested in helping me with this project of

reviewing the best shoes, I would love to chat

with you. So I think it'd be fun. I think it'd

be a good time. And in other news this summer,

I will be going to Gen Con and I'm stupid excited

about it. I just wanted to. share about that

because there will be some interesting fitness

content coming to this podcast as a result and

so I just wanted to tell you guys about it in

case you don't know Gen Con is the largest tabletop

game convention in North America and it's held

in Indianapolis, Indiana and I will be heading

there at the end of July. My husband and I are

celebrating 20 years and it's our wedding anniversary

and so we were talking about all the things that

we could do and And we actually chose to do a

board game convention for our 20th wedding anniversary

because, y 'all, it is so us -coded. We are,

we're some of the biggest nerds you could meet.

We love, like, Star Trek. We love Stargate. We

love board games. Now, our favorite board game

together is Firefly. For those of you who don't

know, I'm obsessed with Firefly, the series.

Brown Coats for life. And, yeah, and screw the

Alliance. So we found Firefly the board game

and we actually have a habit of when we play

the game, we actually also have the series running

in the background. And so it just adds to the

extra layer of fun. We absolutely love board

games and we love card games too. And like my

favorite card game of all is Cards Against Humanity.

My second favorite is Exploding Kittens, if you

know, you know. And I just get an absolute kick

out of the fact that you can pay. one fee and

you can have hours upon hours of fun and then

you get to play it again and again and again

and again. I love games. I love to have fun.

I love getting together with people and just

goofing off and having a good time because I'm

a huge advocate of having as much fun in life

as you possibly can. I think that we only get

this one life. We need to squeeze every ounce

of fun out of it that we possibly can. Board

games is just one of those things that just brings

me an immense amount of joy. And so that's why

we're going to Gen Con. And the reason I bring

that up is because over the next few episodes,

you may hear me talking about my game plan for

how I intend to continue doing the fitness stuff.

In fact, I have quite a bit of travel coming

up this summer. And so I will be sharing how

I intend to keep working out on the road because

y 'all know I love my group fitness classes.

I'm going to miss them so much. I'm addicted

to them. But I've already been talking to my

instructor, Rhonda, about, you know, the fact

that I still want to be able to work out. And

so I actually asked her if she would put together

a custom fitness plan for me for while I'm gone.

And yeah, I'm anxious to hear what she comes

up with. She's already told me that it's going

to hurt and I believe her. So yeah, in the coming

days, you'll hear episodes related to the fact

that I will be going to Gen Con. And I can't

wait to share all of it with you because I...

intend to keep going with my workouts and I want

to share all the things that I will be doing

because I believe that just because I'm going

out of town doesn't mean I should let my fitness

fall to the wayside and I don't want you to either

so if you too are going to be traveling at all

this summer maybe these will inspire you maybe

these episodes will inspire you and maybe you'll

come up with some fun ideas that that you can

use to to continue working out on the road So
