Can I Really Get 1,000 Members in 30 Days? Honest Update From the Car
▸ Show notes from the creator
Ashley just launched a wild 30 day challenge to grow her free fitness community to 1,000 members, and she's recording this update live from the car to tell you exactly how it's going so far. In this raw and unfiltered episode, she breaks down why she picked such a big number, what accountability really looks like when you're doing hard things in public, and why the free tier of More Movement Please is never going away.
She also gets honest about perimenopause, hormone changes, and what it's really like trying to stay consistent with movement when your body isn't cooperating the way it used to. If you've ever wondered whether you're too old, too busy, or too far behind to start moving more, this episode is your sign that it's not too late and you don't have to be perfect to show up.

A thousand members? What the hell was I thinking? What's up my movers and shakers? Famous Ashley Grant here. Welcome to More Movement Please, the podcast where I hope to inspire you to move your body more. So welcome to another car cast. That's what my marketing manager at rss .com called it today. And I think that's funny. So I'm going to start calling it the car cast because that's what this is. I record most of my episodes here in the car anyway. So it kind of makes sense to call this the more movement police car cast because that is where I recorded. So yeah, we're going to go with it. I'm going to lean into it.
00:36
You know, the joke is that. I didn't name myself famous Ashley Grant and I didn't name this a car cast, but I'm going to just lean into both because I think it's funny. So anyway. What am I here to discuss today? I'm basically talking about the fact that I'm right in the middle of a challenge to myself to get to a thousand free members in the community in 30 days. And I launched this on Friday, August 21st. So if you saw that announcement or if you've been seeing any of the YouTube videos that I've been posting about the challenge, that's kind of what's been going on. Today is August 24th. I know you're not going to see this for a little while or hear this for a little while, but... It's August 24th. And as of today, I have 24 members. And so what the heck was I thinking? Choosing a thousand as the big lofty goal to to go for. And the truth is, that's exactly why I chose a thousand is because
01:30
it's an insane number. I've never been accused of being sane. And yeah, so I decided to go for a thousand. Figured I'd just, you know. keep showing up every day and trying to encourage people to join the membership. But why join? Like that may be the big question that you have is why should you join? And is it really free? So I kind of wanted to talk about that. Why should you join? The big reason to join is because it's accountability, right? Like that is the whole point of having a group like this is to hold yourself accountable to moving. Whenever I started getting serious back in July of 2025, I started posting every single day on Instagram and Facebook, whether or not I'd worked out that day. And I chose to do that because I knew if I didn't do it publicly, I wouldn't do it. I know how my personality is. I know how my brain is wired and I have to do things in public because that's the only way I actually do them. And it's kind
02:25
of why I'm doing the 30 day challenge to myself publicly and showing up every day is because I have to do it in order to actually put in the work because I know, okay, if I'm not. um, showing up in the, in the videos every day, then I'm not going to be doing things that are going to be actually moving the needle. So by the time you hear this episode, I don't know how many members I'll have. I'll, I'll leave it in the show notes, how many members we're at and how many members we're trying to get to. But, um, but yeah, I chose to do this publicly simply because I was, I was trying to make me do it.
03:00
I'm trying to be accountable to what I said I wanted to do, which is making this a movement, a moment. And so, yeah, I thought that that that makes the most sense, especially since I've been watching so many creators that are building things in public and how raw and vulnerable you feel as you try to do something like that. It just felt like that's the only way I'm going to actually commit to this. And so that that's that's the big that's the big. you know, hidden secret that's not so secret as to why I chose to do a 30 day challenge for myself. And will I hit the goal?
03:33
I have no idea. And even if I don't, I am glad that I'm showing up. And I think what I'm already thinking ahead, like if I don't hit that number, what am I going to do? I'm going to keep doing daily videos till I get to a thousand numbers. And then after I get to a thousand numbers, I might keep doing videos anyway. And they may pivot. They may shift in terms of like. um what the content is I might you know stop saying the amount of members that we got to I might change it to to something else but I think there's something to be said for you know showing up every day and just doing a quick blip of what's going on I think that that will be helpful for someone like me who has ADHD and has trouble committing to things if I do it publicly knowing that other people are watching I mean that's the whole reason I started the podcast too right is knowing that I have to show up and give accountability reports
04:25
and tell you guys what's really going on. And I had someone recently say to me that the reason that they like this podcast or this car cast, if you will, they like this car cast because it's in the car. They like the fact that it's not polished. They like the fact that it's raw and real and vulnerable. And that's kind of been my mission from the beginning. I never wanted to show up as a. polished, you know, fitness influencer who's telling you you have to take 11 billion supplements or drink detox teas and go on a insane calorie deficit. While I do understand that, you know, you have to be consuming less calories than you're burning in order to actually lose weight. I get that. Please don't misunderstand.
05:06
I know how science works. I'm not I'm not completely stupid. I mean, I'm not the brightest crayon in the box, but I'm not completely stupid. I know you have to be in a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. But. That was never the point of this movement. The entire mission is to inspire you to move your bodies more like that is that's the Reader's Digest version. That's the that's the bumper sticker. That's the that's the that's the whole key. And that's the whole point. And I mean, the reason that we started the paid tiers was because I knew I wanted more workouts from Rhonda. You know, I mean, having her come on as head coach, the whole point of that was. selfishly, I wanted more workouts. And I feel like the more, the more I do these kinds of things in public, the more I want to simply because I know that there's going to be moments where I'm going to have missteps. There's moments I'm going to have
06:00
failures and there already have been. I mean, I've told you guys anytime that I can't move or can't work out, it's, it's devastating to me. Not just because I'm feeling upset that I can't move, but because I know I have to tell you about it. And that's why, you know, yesterday I posted an accountability update that I said I was dreading all week posting because I knew I wasn't going to be moving much. And it was true. I was just absolutely devastated to have to tell y 'all I didn't move much. I moved. I moved every day. This time last year, I was working out significantly more than I am right now. And I've been kind of honest about it. I'm dealing with some health issues. I'm having. You know, I'm at that golden age where I'm dealing with some perimenopause and hormonal crap. And I won't bore you all with the details, I promise. But it's been making it a little bit difficult to move. And so I'm trying to figure out what that
06:54
means for me, like how I can move my body differently. Like yesterday, I broke up the whole day with lots of walking in place exercises. And that really helped me a lot. I think it's why I woke up feeling a little bit better. And I woke up like able to go to Zumba and low impact a little bit easier. But yeah, so that's the whole thing. And is it really free? Absolutely. It's 100 % free. There will always be a free tier. I never intend on making every single tier paid. I have noticed that there are a lot of creators that initially were doing free tiers and paid tiers and then they stopped doing their free tiers.
07:28
I never intend to stop doing a free tier. I want you guys to always have a free way to hold yourself accountable. I want the free tier to always exist simply so that we can say, have you worked out today? It's a simple question and there's, but it's loaded, you know, like a simple thing is not always easy. And yeah, the whole idea is that if I keep showing up every single day and asking you that question, hopefully it'll inspire you to maybe be able to give it a yes. And yeah, with only 24 members. It's not very active yet, but I'm excited for the day that it's bustling.
08:10
I know it's coming and I can feel it. And it may take longer than this 30 days. We launched the Patreon officially in July and now it's only August 24th. And so, yeah, it's going to be slow going. I know it's going to be a slow burn. It's not like I'm just going to wake up one day and, oh, my goodness, I'm going to have 11 billion members. But and if I did, that'd be a great problem to have. But, yeah, just, you know, I that that's the. That's the answer to the questions of how much is it? Is it really free? Yes, it really is. Why do you want a thousand people?
08:42
I just thought that it was a fun, big number. And I thought, you know what, let's go for it and see what happens. I know that I've been reading Pat Flynn's super fans. And he said that, you know, in order to have a six figure business, you need a thousand super fans. And which is funny because, you know, the whole the whole thing is like, yeah, that's the idea being a thousand people that are paying. But no, I'm not trying to say that I'm going to turn this into a thousand people that are definitely paying, which would be awesome. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to have this be my full time job. And this is what I'm constantly doing. And I do have that as a goal. But but yeah, the main reason I chose a thousand is it just sounded like a big number and it sounded like fun. And I thought, you know what? No one's ever accused me of being sane.
09:26
So let's do something insane. Let's do something crazy. And yeah, in the show notes, I'll drop where where we're at. or I'll put a number up or something. I'll let you guys know where we're at right now. But when you see this video or hear this car cast, I would love it if you would come over and join us in the group. It's famousashleygrant.com backslash group. When you join, you get a free ebook with 42 tips of 42 years of life.
09:52
I wrote it on my birthday, which was August 14th. And then I launched the 30 day challenge on August 21st. And yeah, you'll get a free ebook with the 42 tips. that includes lots of tips that I've shared on the podcast, but all in one space. And you'll also receive a seven -day starter kit that's basically trying to get you to move, trying to inspire you to kick off your journey of moving. And you'll also receive a fitness planner that you can mark off and say how much water you're drinking and how much you moved and what you did that day. And yeah, I just want to keep seeing where this thing takes us. I said it from the beginning, I never intended to be a fitness podcaster, but it happened and we're here and I'm embracing it. I'm loving the fact that I'm contributing to this space. I may not be certified in anything fitness. I may not be a fitness guru of any kind, but I can be a contributor
10:44
and I can keep showing up and I can keep being there for people and cheerlead you guys as we continue to inspire people to move their bodies more. And that's the whole goal is I want to inspire people to move their bodies more. If this is the... project that I was meant to do, then I'm just going to keep showing up for it. I feel like it's it feels like a calling. It feels like this is what I'm supposed to be doing. It feels like something that I can be intentional and purposeful with. And I didn't see it coming.
11:08
It wasn't what I was planning. I had a mission. I was I was working towards a food blog and. That's for another day. I'll tell you guys the story about that. But yeah, now things, where they stand is I'm working on the personal brand and fitness is the biggest pillar of that personal brand. And I'm loving the fact that you guys are here along for the ride. Thank you so much for tuning in. Thank you to everybody who has signed up to be a free member. And if you haven't joined already, again, that's famousashleygrant.com backslash group. I'd love to have you in there. And onwards and upwards, my friends. Have you worked out today?
