Welcome to the Bloggy Friends show.
00:15
What's up my Bloggy friends?
00:16
Name is Ashley Grant here and today we are talking all about whether or not you can start
00:21
a business for five bucks.
00:23
You know, it's kind of funny that people are talking a lot about inflation right now and
00:27
how everybody's trying to figure out how they can make money.
00:29
And so it got me to thinking, can you actually do it for less than five dollars?
00:33
And I think the answer is yes.
00:35
So that's what we're going to talk about.
00:37
I know when most people think about starting an online business, they assume it requires
00:40
deep pockets and expensive tools and courses and all that jazz.
00:44
But nothing could be further from the truth.
00:47
With just a few low cost resources, you can actually get the ball rolling and start bringing
00:51
in revenue, then reinvest those earnings back into your business as you grow.
00:56
So in a very quick episode, we're just going to quickly talk about all the different things
01:00
that you can do right now to start bringing in revenue.
01:04
Let's dive in.
01:05
So first up is education.
01:07
And that might seem a little strange to talk about whenever I'm telling you about how to
01:11
start a business for less than five bucks.
01:13
But the truth is when you're starting out, when you're first starting out, you want to
01:16
resist the urge to spend big money on courses and coaching because there are tons of free
01:21
resources that you can use to learn the fundamentals.
01:24
And the first place that I would recommend starting is YouTube.
01:27
There's so many amazing YouTube channels out there that teach all kinds of different things.
01:31
For example, Baddie in Business.
01:33
She has an amazing channel that teaches how to make money on TikTok, how to make money
01:37
on Instagram, how to make money with drop shipping, like all kinds of different things.
01:42
I'll leave a bunch of links to all the YouTube channels I'm about to mention.
01:45
But I just wanted to at least start with her because I've been consuming her content a
01:49
lot lately.
01:50
And the things that she teaches, like some people sell these courses for a lot of money,
01:54
but she's teaching how to do it completely for free.
01:58
Graham Stephan is another really awesome one.
02:00
And he teaches budgeting, investing, side hustles, building multiple income streams.
02:06
And his channel is completely free.
02:08
In fact, every single channel that I'm about to mention is completely free.
02:12
And if you want to get it without ads, of course, you'll have to pay the premium fee.
02:16
But you can get it for free if you don't mind going through a few ads to watch these different
02:22
YouTube channels.
02:23
So another one that I highly recommend is Sunny.
02:26
I always forget how to say her last name.
02:28
I'm going to say it wrong.
02:29
And I'm so sorry, Sunny, if you ever hear this.
02:31
I think it's Leonardousie.
02:34
Basically, she focuses on monetizing your passions through YouTube, blogging, social
02:38
media marketing, selling digital products, all the things.
02:41
She actually teaches people how to make money on YouTube with her YouTube channel.
02:44
And I friggin' love it.
02:46
Another great channel is Seradici.
02:48
She teaches a lot about YouTube monetization specifically, like getting views, getting
02:53
sponsors, growing a channel, all that kind of stuff.
02:56
And Sean Kennel, if you were thinking about starting a YouTube channel, definitely check
03:00
out his page.
03:02
He runs Think Media, and he explains online video webinars, how to grow a personal brand,
03:06
all that good stuff.
03:07
He's awesome.
03:11
Another channel I definitely recommend is Jessica Stansberry's channel.
03:15
She also goes by the name Hey Jessica.
03:17
She teaches a lot of people about how to create digital products, and she built one of her
03:22
income streams all on digital products.
03:24
She makes several thousand dollars a month making various digital products, and she actually
03:28
teaches people how to do it themselves on her YouTube channel with amazing resources.
03:33
Some of them, some of the resources she mentions are also free.
03:39
Another channel I have to recommend is Mission Side Hustle.
03:42
Basically, this guy Cory from Florida, he had this mission to turn $500 into a million
03:50
dollars.
03:51
In one of his very first episodes, he even talks about how he got the $500 to get started.
03:55
It's kind of fascinating that you can take some of the stuff that's in your own home
03:59
and sell it on eBay, sell it on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace or whatever to get
04:05
the capital to begin a business.
04:07
It's been wild watching his building of his business in real time, and he's actually showing
04:14
people every single episode what it is he's doing to make money.
04:19
If you're into that kind of thing and you want to watch the glow up, I definitely recommend
04:23
it.
04:24
It's an awesome, awesome channel.
04:25
But every channel that I mentioned here is fantastic, and I'm sure there's a bunch more
04:28
that I'm blanking on right now, so I'm going to leave more in the show notes.
04:31
If you go to famousashagrant.com backslash five bucks, and that is five spelled out,
04:37
five bucks, you will see all of the resources that I talk about in this episode that you
04:43
can check out yourself.
04:46
In addition to looking at YouTube, I highly, highly, highly, highly recommend podcasts.
04:51
Podcasts are a great way to learn a lot of information.
04:53
In fact, every single time that I am considering a course from a coach or someone who's big
04:59
in their industry, the first thing I do is I look and see if they have a podcast.
05:02
The reason for that is several of the things that they teach in their online courses.
05:06
For example, Denise Duffield Thomas, she sells a $2,000 course on how to fix your money mindset.
05:14
It's a great course.
05:15
It's a fantastic course, but a lot of the things that she teaches in that course, you
05:18
can actually learn for free on her podcast, Chill and Prosper.
05:22
Chill and Prosper is a wonderful, wonderful podcast if you're trying to figure out how
05:26
to get your money mindset right.
05:28
It's geared for all chilpreneurs, like all people that are wanting to make money but
05:34
do it easily.
05:36
She teaches so many amazing things in her episodes, and I highly, highly recommend it.
05:40
Hers and Amy Porterfield's online marketing made easy.
05:44
If you're trying to learn how to build an audience and sell to them, highly recommend
05:49
her podcast.
05:50
Also, is Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income.
05:53
Got to check that one out if you're trying to learn about how to not just make passive
05:56
income, but how to make any income.
05:58
She teaches so many amazing different things.
06:01
Finally is Entrepreneurs on Fire by John Lee Dumas and his partner, well now spouse, Kate
06:09
Erickson.
06:10
She also has a lot of episodes that she does under that umbrella of Entrepreneurs on Fire.
06:15
She does Kate's Take and several other different podcast series that I highly recommend.
06:20
If you're trying to learn stuff about entrepreneurship, how to be a scrappy entrepreneur, definitely,
06:25
definitely check out that podcast.
06:27
If you're still trying to find additional resources to learn different things, different
06:32
industries that you're trying to consider starting, go to the library.
06:36
That is a great place to get all kinds of free information.
06:39
So definitely go there.
06:41
On Kindle, I don't know if you know this, but every single day there are thousands of
06:46
books you can get for free on Kindle.
06:48
I will leave a link in the show notes for that as well because they have a really awesome
06:53
resource inside the Kindle bookstore where you can see the top 100 free books in every
06:59
single niche that they sell books for, like everything from cooking to photography to
07:04
crafting and heck, even sports or travel.
07:08
There's all kinds of free books that you can get access to.
07:10
So definitely check out the resources that I put in the show notes.
07:14
Like I said, it's famous-lagrant.com backslash five bucks and that's five spelled out.
07:19
So next you want to carefully choose your niche or niche, depending on how you're feeling
07:24
that day.
07:25
It could be niche or niche.
07:26
It's the same thing, but basically you want to have something that aligns with your interests,
07:30
but that doesn't require large upfront inventory or purchases or investments.
07:35
You want to be able to start earning money as quickly as possible.
07:38
So do some basic market research online to assess the demand and potential profitability.
07:43
One of the one things that you can do that I talk about all the time is you can start
07:46
blogging about whatever niche it is that you are excited about.
07:49
And once you have your niche set up or selected, then it's time to set up your online hub.
07:54
And there are only three real things that you need to start a blogging based business.
07:59
And that's a domain name, which you can get for as little as 99 cents on something like
08:02
go daddy.com.
08:03
You need web hosting and a lot of people are going to get very mad at me for saying this,
08:08
but the truth is you can take that 99 cent domain and actually hook it up to googleblogger.com
08:13
and you can create your website for free using something like that.
08:18
And then you need an email list service, something like MailChimp or ConvertKit or one of those
08:23
other ones that starts for free.
08:25
And I highly recommend you choose a free one first because if you're not making money yet,
08:30
you don't want to put out a lot of money, right?
08:32
Right.
08:33
Once you have these things in place, then you can build a simple website, start creating
08:36
content and then launch your email list so you can start having a place to connect with
08:40
your audience.
08:42
So if you are going to start a website, let's talk traffic and monetization.
08:46
Here's some budget friendly strategies to start earning fast.
08:49
And I mentioned a lot of these in my last episode about how to turn your blog into a
08:53
business, but just for shits and giggles, let's go through them again.
08:57
Display ads through Google AdSense.
08:59
That's a quick and easy way to start getting money into your website immediately.
09:03
Offer freelance services like writing, design, virtual assisting, or promote affiliate offers
09:09
that are related to your niche.
09:11
Sell your own low cost info products like eBooks or video courses.
09:15
And finally, network and collaborate with other marketers.
09:18
The sky really is the limit.
09:20
And I'll definitely leave a link to last episode so you guys can check that out if you want
09:23
a little bit more in-depth information about what I'm talking about.
09:27
The key is to get multiple income streams up and running so you have cash coming in
09:30
right away to reinvest into your business.
09:33
So you might be wondering though, what do I do if funds are extremely limited?
09:36
I don't even have 99 cents for a domain.
09:41
Now when this happens, you can still kickstart your online marketing efforts using just free
09:46
social media platforms and an email list service.
09:49
For example, create accounts on Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, TikTok, et cetera.
09:55
Then build up your following by consistently posting valuable content every single day.
10:00
But no matter what you're doing on any of those platforms, always be driving people
10:04
back to sign up for your email list.
10:06
Most of the email list services that you can sign up for, they will give you a free link
10:10
that you can use to drive people to your list.
10:13
Use that so you can start contacting people immediately.
10:17
Engage with your audience often.
10:19
Reply to comments, reply to messages.
10:22
Reply to anything that people are saying to you so that you can start actually building
10:25
a community of people to talk to.
10:27
Then you can monetize all of your social media accounts in a few ways without spending money.
10:32
For example, you can link to affiliate offers and products that are related to your niche.
10:37
Direct people to buy all kinds of different things like anything that you're talking about.
10:41
Let's say you have a Facebook page that's all about football.
10:45
You could do some aspect of that niche and talk about football and link to different
10:50
affiliate offers.
10:51
Let's say you're about to talk about the big game that's about to come up and you want
10:54
to talk about how to throw the perfect football party.
10:58
You could link to the napkins, the cups, the food, anything.
11:03
All of that can be affiliate links that you can sign up for and drive people back to,
11:08
let's say an Amazon or a Walmart or a Target or whatever.
11:12
Then you will get a commission for any purchase that is made through your link.
11:21
Like I said, you want to create a free account with an email service like MailChimp or ConvertKit
11:26
and then set up opt-in forms on your social profiles.
11:29
Offer a compelling lead magnet like a template, a checklist, a mini course, whatever.
11:34
You can do these with free resources like Canva.
11:37
You can actually create a free template on Canva that you link to in your email list
11:42
so that when people give their email to you, you link to that Canva checklist or whatever
11:47
it is that you want to create.
11:49
You could create an ebook.
11:50
You could create, God, there's so many things you could create.
11:53
In fact, I'm going to leave a list of all the different digital products that you could
11:56
create completely for free and how to do it in the show notes as well.
12:00
If you have skills, just with the time invested in social media platforms and an email list,
12:06
you can start building an audience and generating income without any upfront costs.
12:11
But if you have skills, you can start making money for free that way too.
12:15
For example, you could start freelancing on platforms like Upwork or Fiverr.
12:20
You can create a profile completely for free and you could sell things like writing and
12:24
editing, graphic design, video and photo editing, voiceovers, bookkeeping, virtual
12:29
assisting.
12:30
The list goes on and on and on.
12:32
I highly recommend that you follow Alexandra Fasulo.
12:36
Check out her past content about how to freelance write.
12:39
She had a podcast called The Freelance Fairy, some awesome episodes on that.
12:44
I will link to a couple of her different articles that I highly recommend you check out if you
12:48
are interested in freelancing on Fiverr or Upwork.
12:53
On those websites, then you can provide details about your expertise, your experience, and
12:57
even share a portfolio if you have one.
12:59
If you're trying to get started as a writer, for example, create an account on Reddit,
13:03
create an account on Medium or Quora or whatever and just start writing content that you can
13:08
immediately start putting out there and show people what it is you do.
13:11
And then you can use that as your portfolio so you can start bidding on projects that
13:15
align with your abilities.
13:17
For fixed price gigs, you can name your rate for hourly jobs, set up an hourly wage that
13:22
you prefer, and then the platform handles the payments.
13:24
Yes, they take a small commission and that is one thing that really sucks, but you'll
13:28
have no upfront fees so you could start your business completely for free.
13:33
And then communicate professionally with clients and deliver high quality work.
13:36
And as you complete these projects successfully, you'll start gaining good reviews, which
13:40
will help you win more business, and on and on it keeps going.
13:44
And then eventually, as soon as you can afford it, get a website, get a portfolio, get all
13:48
the things that basically make it easier to keep making money and keep getting your name
13:52
out there.
13:53
So to close things out, here are some other quick tips that I highly, highly recommend.
13:57
First one, prioritize building your email list from day one.
14:00
Trust me, this will pay off big time.
14:03
I still suck at it.
14:04
I'm still working on it.
14:05
Hopefully by the time you guys are listening to this episode, I think this episode comes
14:08
out in March or April.
14:09
So hopefully by then I will actually have an email list.
14:11
But if you don't have one yet, get one.
14:14
And then create valuable content consistently on a blog, social media, somewhere that you
14:19
can actually get in touch with your ideal audience, attract them, and engage with them
14:23
regularly.
14:25
Next you want to take advantage of free marketing tools like Canva for graphics, keyword research
14:29
tools, even AI.
14:35
Even AI chat bots.
14:36
I mean, I'll leave a couple links to a couple of my favorites down in the show notes below.
14:41
But there's no need to spend money on any of it yet.
14:44
And then automate what you can through your website, your email provider, and even your
14:48
social media platforms.
14:49
This will save you time as you scale up.
14:51
The bottom line though is yes, you can start a business for $5 or less.
14:56
You can.
14:57
The bottom line, oh, let me try that again.
14:59
The bottom line is yes, you can start a business for $5 or less.
15:03
You don't need a fancy huge budget.
15:05
You don't need fancy tech or anything like that to build a successful online business.
15:10
You can even start a podcast completely for free.
15:12
I'll leave some links in the show notes for that as well.
15:15
But the key is if you are going to start a business at all, start small, but take consistent
15:20
action.
15:21
Then provide real value to your audience on a regular basis.
15:25
And don't be afraid to experiment and learn as you go.
15:28
You've got this.
15:29
I believe in you.
15:30
And if you found this helpful, please share it with somebody.
15:32
I'd really appreciate it.
15:33
It'll help the channel a lot.
15:35
And that's all I've got for now.
15:37
So if you are a blogger, until next time, may your page views be high and your bounce
15:41
right below.
